Carl Ketchum of Larchmont, NY passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 17th. Carl was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1941 to Bostwick H. Ketchum and Emily King Ketchum. He grew up in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and attended Bates College in Maine. He received his doctorate in Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Carl was passionate about sharing his love of mathematics and science. He was a revered professor at The College of The Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. Carl moved to New York and taught at Ethical Culture Fieldston School for 20 years before his retirement.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, golfing, skiing and sailing with family and friends. He was the ultimate good neighbor and friend, always helping anyone in need.
Carl is survived by his cherished wife of 30 years, Lorraine Stratis. He was predeceased by his beloved son Todd (Laura Marie). He is survived by his children: Andrew Ketchum (Maryann), Laura Lynn Ketchum and their mother Beverly E. Ketchum. His brother Paul Ketchum (Robin) and his sister Sara Ann Ketchum. He is also survived by his stepchildren Susan Stratis and Jennifer Bransfield (John).
He was the devoted grandfather of 11 grandchildren: Nathan, Charles, Victoria, Adam, Sam, Toby, Nevin, Alec, Jake, Joey, and Eva; and great granddaughter, Ava.
